Patrick Yip will lead the firm’s growth-stage investment strategy from Houston, Texas.

February 29th, 2024, Houston, TXClimate Investment (CI), the specialist decarbonization investor, today announced the appointment of Patrick Yip to lead its growth investment strategy. As Managing Director, Head of Growth, Patrick will be responsible for all aspects of developing CI’s growth-stage portfolio, including leading deal origination and portfolio construction, overseeing the strategy’s operational functions and working closely with his colleagues on CI’s Leadership team as well as its Ventures team, which manages CI’s early-stage Catalyst program.

Patrick will report to CI CEO Dr. Pratima Rangarajan, be a member of CI’s Leadership Team, CI’s Growth Investment Committee and manage a team of investment and technology professionals.

“We are excited to welcome Patrick to Climate Investment,” said Dr. Pratima Rangarajan, CEO. “The decarbonization investment opportunity continues to grow rapidly, and Patrick’s extensive experience will help us capitalize on that. He will also provide leadership and develop the market partnerships that will drive our growth investment strategy forward, playing a key role in supporting portfolio market adoption and accelerating the next stage of development for CI.”

Last year, CI expanded its investment strategy to include growth-stage opportunities, drawing in investors from across industry sectors, reflecting both a maturing decarbonization pipeline as well as opening the technology synergies within CI’s portfolio to a broader investor base. “Investing in Growth is a natural extension of our early-stage Catalyst strategy, enabling us to bring our experience and industry relationships to a wider range of companies that are poised for market expansion,” Pratima noted.

Marc van den Berg leads the Catalyst program, while Josh Haacker, CI’s Chief Investment Officer, oversees CI’s overall investment strategy. The firm executes a highly distinct market proposition, sitting at the nexus between innovators, capital provision and market adopters, the latter being pivotal to driving down global greenhouse gas emissions. Since being founded in 2016 by members of the Oil & Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), CI has facilitated over 136 market deployments of its portfolio companies’ technologies with global customers across its network.

Patrick joins CI from GEC, where he was a Managing Director and helped lead the firm’s growth-stage decarbonization and energy transition technology investments. Prior to that, Patrick’s two decades of experience have included roles at Halliburton, Cerberus, Goldman Sachs and Bank of America. He has also held a number of private company Board positions within the energy transition sector. He earned his Bachelor of Economics from Washington University in St. Louis and MBA at NYU Stern School of Business.
